The Drum Major Instinct

And so Jesus gave us a new norm of greatness. If you want to be important-wonderful. If you want to be recognized-wonderful. If you want to be great-wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your Servant. That’s a new definition of greatness. And this morning the thing that I like about it: by giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, Everybody because everybody can Serve. You don’t have to have a College degree to serve. You don’t have to make your Subject and your verb agree to Serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to Serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a Soul generated by love. And you can be that Servant. Yes, if you want to Say that I was a drum major, Say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. But I just want to be there in love and in justice and in truth and in commitment to Others, So that we can make of this Old World a new World.

Someone once Said

Holding positive thoughts and speaking positive words help me see divine order all around me bring balance to my world. As yeast is to bread my positive thoughts serve to lift my spirit and my attitude. I rise to a greater awareness of the perfect unfolding of life. My positive thoughts help me feel and know: I am in harmony with the mind of God. My affirmative words reinforce the truth: I am in tune with the life of God. I am renewed in mind and body. I experience greater order in my work through positive affirmations: I am led by the wisdom of Spirit, and my work is in divine order. My positive attitude creates order in my relationships: I express divine love, and all my relationships are harmonious. I give thanks for perfect balance and order in my life.
My positive thoughts and prayers lift me to a new awareness of divine order in my life.

Listen, My Beloved

I am the wisdom of your heart. You are wise beyond measure. You are so wise that only loving, helpful, kind words are written on your heart. Your mind writes only the melodies of harmony and understanding. Your life is like a book, filled with stories that inspire others to be their best selves. Let the wisdom of your heart flow through your thoughts, words and actions to bless each life you touch. Look within for peace. Look for My presence always. Look for My love in every expression. Live each day knowing that I love you, My Beloved. Give yourself completely to Me in this moment of sweet silent communion, and let Me show you in the way.

Someone once Said

The foundation of my life is faith. My faith assures me that regardless of appearances, the unconditional love of God sustains me always. I build my life on faith, and I strengthen that faith through prayer. I am spiritually whole and complete, strong and secure. With each prayer, my experience of God’s love grows ever stronger. If winds of ill health, lack, unrest, or indecision blow against me, I stand firm. I do not waver. I have faith that the love of God will see me through any challenge. Divine love carries me through any storm of life with absolute peace in my heart. Nothing I have done or will do can separate me from the love of God. God’s love erases any past mistake and allows me to begin anew. Because I am centered in God, I am at peace. Like a house built upon rock, I stand strong in the love of God.
I live in the presence of diving love.

Jesus Heals a Sick Woman

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed. Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my clothes? You see the people crowding against you, his disciples answered, and yet you can ask, Who touched me? But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignatly to one another, Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor And they rebuked her harshly. Leave her alone, said Jesus. Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.

A Harvest Story

What do you make of this? A farmer planted seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road, and birds ate it. Some fell in the gravel, it sprouted quickly but didn’t put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds, as it came up, was strangled by the weeds. Some fell on good earth, and produced a harvest beyond his wildest dreams. Study this story of the farmer planting seed. When anyone hears news of the kingdom and doesn’t take it in, it just remains on the surface, and so the Evil One comes along and plucks it right out of that person’s heart. This is the seed the farmer scatters on the road. The seed cast in the gravel-this is the person who hears and instantly responds with enthusiasm. But there is no soil of character, and so when the emotions wear off and some difficulty arrives, there is nothing to show for it. The seed cast in the weeds is the person who hears the kingdom news, but weeds of worry and illusions about getting more and wanting everything under the sun strangle what was heard and nothing comes of it. The seed cast on good earth is the person who hears and takes in the News, and then produces a harvest beyond his wildest dreams.

The Parable of the Yeast

He told them still another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
