Bible

The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Mercy

The first step in finding your place in God’s plan is to see his mercy-instead of looking inside yourself, look up to him and reflect upon and understand his mercy. How great is the call of God! God forgave us before we even asked it. He extended mercy to us before we even knew we needed it. Why? Because the God of mercy took pity on us-a band of creatures who are incapable of saving themselves without his gift of mercy.

Guidance

It’s not easy to hear the voice of God when popular opinion tells you it’s okay to be immoral, or when your friends cheat on their income tax. But if you remain true to what you know to be right and godly, God says you will be blessed. The Christian is the one who seeks to discern the voice of God amidst the many voices that come our way. One of the greatest challenges that we have is to learn to hear the voice of truth.

Home

The power of a strong relationship sustains us and give us strength-it’s that power in knowing, If I fail, my friend is still there, or If I fail, It’s the power in knowing that-no matter what-we have a Father who still loves us. In repairing a relationship, it’s essential to realize that no friendship is perfect no marriage is perfect, no person is perfect. With the resolve that you are going to make a relationship work, you can develop peace treaties of love and tolerance and harmony to transform a difficult situation into something beautiful. God’s goal for your home is harmony. That means a family of individuals singing different notes, but with the same score of music, with the same goal. Your home is simply a means to take you to a greater end-a heavenly end. Working together as coheirs of eternal salvation is the foundation for the home.

Surrender

In our “bootstrap” society, where you tough it up adn do it on your own take pride in being a rugged individualist, the one thing that seems to escape us is being before God on our knees-being before God, aware that we are helpless and allowing him to assist us. Can you say to Jesus “This burden’s too heavy for me. I want you to be my co-worker. I want you to carry this burden with me. I cannot do it any longer.” He says if you will come to him, if you’ll allow him to carry that burden with you, his promise is that you will receive rest. Surrendering our life to Christ means going to him and saying,”I’m yours; use me however you want to. “Once you’ve done this, you can begin to seek his will for your life. Once we’re honest with ourselves about who we are, then God can begin to remold our hearts…in total surrender.

I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee, my blessed Saviour, I surrender all.

Forgiveness

What do you do when people mistreat you or those you love? Does the fire of anger boil within you, with leaping flames consuming your emotions? Or do you reach somewhere, to some source of cool water and pull out a bucket of mercy-to free yourself? Is there any emotion that imprisons the soul more than the unwillingness to forgive? Don’t get on the roller coaster of resentment and anger. You be the one who says, “Yes, he mistreated me, but I am going to be like Christ, I’ll be the one who says,’Forgive them, Father, they don’t know what they’re doing.'” The fist step toward forgiveness is to see the other person as a human being, not as a source of hurt. That’s how God treated us with mercy-he became one of us, he felt as we feel, he understood our frustations. And as a result, when he hung on the cross, he could look at those crucifying him and ask God to forgive them. When you forgive someone, you are as close to God as you will ever be, because in that forgiveness you are demonstrating the very heart of God, the merciful King. If you want to understand God, if you want to draw closer to him, then forgive someone today.

Parents

Never understimate the ponderings of a Christian parent. Never underestimate the power that comes when a parent pleds with God on behalf of a child. Who knows how many prayers are being answered right now because of the faithful ponderings of a parent ten or twenty years ago? God listens to thoughtful parents. Praying for our childern is a noble task. If what we are doing, in this fast-paced society, is taking us away from prayer time for our children, we’re doing too much. There is nothing more special, more precious than that time that a parent spends struggling and pondering with God on behalf of a child. It’s not too late for the child who has brought only tears. Think of Jesus’s parents; the mother who had to watch her son crucified saw her son raised from the dead. Though you may go to the grave wondering if your prayers will ever be answered, don’t stop praying. God blesses faithfulness.

Praise

Praise is the highest occupation of any being. What happens when we praise the Father? We reestablish the proper chain of command; we recognize that the King is on the throne and that he has saved his people. The whole purpose of coming before the King is to praise him, to live in recognition his splendor. Praise-lifting up our heart and hands, exulting with our voices, singing his praises-is the occupation of those who dwell in the kingdom. I believe that praise and prayer develop us for what we will do when we arrive in heaven. What’s your picture of what you’ll be doing there-sitting on a cloud? Polishing your halo? Playing your harp? That’s not what you’re going to be doing. You’re going to be involved in the ongoing process of coreigning with God.
