The Beauty of the Spirit

When a designer sends a model down a fashion runway, he or she is concerned with the model’s total look. The model isn’t just wearing the designer’s garment. The designer has usually spent a great deal of time and effort in selecting the proper accessories, instructing the models in how to walk, turn, and carry themselves, and creating the overall environment in which to show off the designs. And so it is with our God. He created you as a composite. He gave you certain talents, features, and personality traits. Then He added a variety of emotional responeses and spiritual gifts. He was concerned with the overall, total you. He designed you to be a vibrant, thinking, feeling, fully functioning person with a unique attractiveness. He decorated you with far more than physical attributes. God made you with flesh-an outer appearance. God has blessed you with creativity and an apprectation for beauty. You can and should recognize your appearance as an area in which you can express yourself to the glory of God. But the outer you dosen’t replace the need for the inner you. The inner you doesn’t negate the need for the outer you. You must have balance. Remember that your inner qualities are eternal and, therefore, more important. The inner qualities should give rise to the outer ones. In other words, it is who you are on the inside that should define what you choose to do with your outside. The woman who is confident in the Lord might choose to wear a $1.50 dress she finds at the local thrft shop or a $150 dress she buys at an upscale department store. She is confident either way. Her looks don’t determine her character. The greater part of your beauty cannot be bought, taken off a rack, applied like lipstick, or put on like a hat. The greater part of your attractiveness lies within; it wells up from the inside and finds an appropritate creative expression on the outside. That’s what Peter meant when he wrote that the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit has a great price in the sight of God(see 1 Peter 3:4) God sees what no one else can see. And it’s that part of you that He values most.
Your beauty should not come from outward adorment, such as elaborte hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

The Parable of the Growing Seed

He also said, This is what the kingdom of God is like, A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed spouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by iteslf the soil produces grain-first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvet has come.

A Scripture from Matthew 13:52

He said, Then you see how every student well-trained in God’s kingdom is like the owner of a general store who can put his hands on anything you need, old or new, exactly when you need it.

The Lord’s Kiss

You are greater than your past. You are stronger than any moment of failure. You can rise like smoke up a chimney. You were meant to spiral to the sky. All the chilling drafts of broken promises should not deny you the gift of life. Never forget that you are alive-sometimes weak, sometimes strong, but alive. You will be right some days and wrong some nights but don’t stop waking up in the morning. The morning is God’s gift of another chance to pass the exam. He has kissed you gently, tenderly, but definitely. It is not the urgent kiss of a desperate lover who makes demands in the night. He has kissed you with the gentle kiss of a Father’s favor whose tenderness would shield you from the traumas of the past. You have been touched, blessed, kissed. One smooch, gently delievered from heaven’s lips to human pain. You have been kissed by the Father Himself. No wonder Satan has failed to destroy in the night what God has prepared for the light. You have been kissed. This is what you have to know if you are to withstand the darkness. This is what you must rehearse against the goblins of old images and past memories that would assult your dreams and turn them into nightmares. Just as sure as a father’s kiss would ease a nervous child trying to rest in a strange place, God’s kiss is a sedative for you. No matter how foreign this place in your life may seem you must know He prepared you for it. When He kissed you, He shielded you, and you are His. Safe and secure, you may rest in the sanctity and safety of arms that will not fail you. A kiss good night is His way of sealing you till morning. And it will come; it will not tarry. The morning is yours. Spend it well. Use it sparingly. It is a gift. The morning is for the hopeful, not the regreful. It is expectation. It is wet dew moistening dry ground. It is hummingbirds and honking horns and a city yawing into alertness. Greater still, it is the future lying naked before you. Daybreak is stretching in the fresh hours of a new opportunity just created. It is an empty tomb and a filled manger. It is life, love, and hope. Never will pass, tears will dry, and enemies will leave. But you will arise in the morning.
Kiss me -full on the mouth! Yes! For your love is better than wine.

A Scripture From Matthew 13:45-46

Or, God’s kingdom is like a jewel merchant on the hunt for excellent peals. Finding one that is flawless, he immediately sells everything and buys it.

Designer Original

One of the things that makes high-fashion designs so expensive is that they are one-of-a-kind creations. A woman who buys a haute couture design knows that she isn’t going to see her dress on any other woman. She knows she is going to have a superbly crafted garment. In many cases, it will be handstitched and custom-tailored to fit her like a soft leather glove fits a hand. She knows that every aspect of the design of her garment has been carefully conceived and constructed. Woman are willing to pay a high price for an original design. And so it should be when we look at our lives. God has put us together in a way that cannot and should not be replicated. He chose every aspect of our personalities, crafted every gift and talent He bestowed on us, and gave special thought to each one of our features and traits. We were handmade by Him in our mother’s womb. He custom-designed us to fit a specific role in His sovereign plan for the ages. You are a designer original. God made you to be one of a kind. Your fingerprint is different from that of anybody else-living or dead. The same goes for your hand print, footprint, voice print, and your entire genetic code. Nobody else had the combination of physical traits you have. Nobody else has the identical set of genes. And even if you did have the exact genetic makeup of another person, you would still be unique. Nobody else has been placed by God in exactly your family, your neighborhood, your church, your group of friends and associates. Nobody else has been put on the earth at precisely this moment in history. Nobody else has had the same experiences you’ve had. Nobody else has the same talents and personality quirks and strengths and weaknesses and abilites and disabilites and skills and trainning and connections. Nobody has ever been just like you. And nobody ever will be just like you. You are a designer original. Have you ever celebrated yourself? Have you ever praised God for the way He made you? If not, today is a good day to begin.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
